Ghana Permanent Virtual Exhibition and Business Directory
Ghana’s population of more than 24 million people is divided into a number of small ethnic groups speaking approximately 50 languages and dialects. Bordered by Ivory Coast to the west, Burkina Faso to the north and Togo to the east, the Republic of Ghana was the first black African nation to achieve its independence, which it gained from Great Britain in 1957.
A country often described as well-administered, Ghana is often seen as a model for African economic and political reform. The country is the world’s second-largest cocoa producer.
Ghana’s natural resources include bauxite, diamonds, fish, gold, manganese, timber and oil, thanks to a major discovery off its coast in 2007 – industry experts believe Ghana will be the third-largest oil producer in West Africa by 2015.
The country’s agricultural output, beyond cocoa (one-third of all export revenue) includes cashews, coconuts, coffee, palm products, pineapples, rubber, shea nuts and spices – agriculture accounts for one-third of GDP and just over half of formal employment.
Ghanaian companies are active in a number of industries, particularly aluminum, fishing, lumber, mining and tourism. The country’s key export partners are Nigeria, China, the USA, the UK, the Netherlands, Cote d’Ivoire, France and India.
For about two decades, Ghana has seen economic growth and political stability. Real GDP growth has increased about 5% over the past decade. Looking to partner with a Ghanaian company? Start with the most comprehensive Ghanaian business directory anywhere, GhanaExpoOnline.com.
